Activities, Projects, and Programs

The Brogue Area Jaycees run many activities, programs, and projects during the year, mostly to benefit others in community.

Community Development

Chicken BBQ’s

We run several chicken barbeques during the year to raise funds for various projects. Starting early to get the charcoal glowing and we barbeque the chicken with our secret baste, all morning. People are always asking when our next barbeque will be. We will post dates for the BBQ closer to the season.  BBQ’s are usually held at Urey’s Garage on Rte. 74 in Felton.

Marksmen Competition

For the sportsmen in the area, and there are many, we hold one or two competitions a year. Hams, turkeys and cash prizes are awarded to those who are a shot above the rest. View Pictures

Halloween Party-

Wicked monsters, fairy princesses, super heroes, and hobos all gather for our annual Halloween party. We have bobbing for apples, awards for the best costumes, games, and other activities for all kids brave enough to venture out this night.

Outstanding Citizen's Awards

Our community is certainly blessed with numerous individuals who unselfishly donate time, effort, and money for the benefit of others. In a small way, we attempt to honor these individuals, by selecting several people for their contributions to the community and present them with a plaque at our annual I&A Banquet.  2005 Winner-  Bob Miller

Senior Citizen's Banquet- March 12, 2006

We honor those who have gave us the world we live in, and who helped ensure the many blessings for which we are thankful. The annual Senior Citizen banquet is held at the Fiddler's Building in March. All Senior Citizens are cordially invited to attend. This year featured a roast beef dinner with mashed potatoes, gravy, filling and corn.  Along with the great food is an evening of social activity and bingo free to the Seniors in our community.

Creek Clean Up- April 2, 2006

Once a year Tommy's Creek needs cleaning up for enjoyable fishing. We fix up the trout pools, remove dead branches and debris, and clear the banks (which have overgrown with weeds). We do this just before stocking for the Fishing Derby, and it provides a tranquil enjoyable spot for local anglers the whole season.

Easter Egg Hunt- April 8, 2006

Just before Easter each year, our Easter bunny sets out colored eggs for the local children. Special plastic eggs containing a certificate are also hidden. For the children lucky and/or keen eyed enough to find the special eggs a prize is awarded. All the children have an enjoyable time hunting and finding the eggs.

Fishing Derby- April 15, 2006

For the local children we stock Tommy's Creek and run a fishing contest on the opening day of trout season. The event is free every year so come out with your children to have fun.View the pictures from the 2005 Fishing Derby.

M-Night

Come out and see what it is like to be a Brogue JC.  Horseshoes, Clay shoots, FUN!  Date and time to be announced.

Block Shoots

Shoots were held every Sunday in August.  Many shooters won prizes of chicken, steaks or ham.  Cost $10 a person.

Jaycees Activities

Besides community service, the growth and development of the members is a primary concern of the Organization. Numerous activities at the local, state, and nation levels lead to the betterment of the members (particularly leadership and managerial skills)

50-50 Raffles

Everybody likes to contribute to a worthy cause, and it is especially nice if they win a prize. We hold several raffles during the year. The prize to the winners is usually a share of half the money taken in by the raffle. The other half is used for various community projects.

Donations to Local Needy Individuals

Occasionally a local family falls upon hard times. We assist where we can by monetary donations, or with supplies and home repairs. The Good Lord placed us all on this earth together, so we must care for each other, as we all are family.

State Board Meeting

Board meetings give the Brogue membership a chance to catch up on state activities and meet new people. Includes board meeting and discussions, and       various workshops covering a range of subjects to enhance the members' management, leader, people, and financial skills.

National Conventions

Annual conventions are similar to state meetings, but on a nation wide scale. Includes presentations from all state organizations.

Local Events
